Dra. Ribas (on behalf of INCLIVA), Mar Martínez (Councilor for Social Welfare of Puçol) and Enric Esteve (Mayor of Puçol)

Puçol had organized last Sunday 6th of March, within the events of Women’s Week, a solidarity campaign in benefit of the fight against breast cancer that mobilized all the citizens of Puçol who participated in a fun race and in the organization of it.

The sports event distributed more than 1,200 athlete bibs whose full amount was donated to Dr. Gloria Ribas who attended on behalf of INCLIVA and as principal investigator of the Functional Cancer Genomics group within InDeST in collaboration with the research group of Dr. Ana Lluch of Breast Cancer Biology.

It was the mayor of Puçol, Enric Esteve, and Councilor for Social Welfare, Mar Martínez, whodelivered the check for € 6,235 to Dra. Ribas, which will be used to finance the breast cancer project for women younger than 35 years. There, Dra. Ribas briefly explained the Project of Analysis of genomic deregulation in breast cancer in young women under 35 years of which she is the principal investigator. The project is based on the exploratory analysis of both the differences in gene expression and in the epigenetics to identify biomarkers that may be related to the aggressiveness and biology of these tumors. Dra. Ribas explained: “Although breast cancer is very common, it is more representative in ages depart from 50 years, cancer in young women has not been much studied, and recently it has been observed that, apart from clinical differences, would present molecular differential characteristics that may help as a starting point for better therapies.”

The event, turned into a solidarity and family event, started with a race through the town whose total journey was 5 km. Followed by an improvised batucada and ended with a spinning class.

Actions such as this, in which people show their solidary side, are directly involved with cancer research due to these encourages the daily work of the staff form InDeST. From here, we express our most sincere thanks.
